The NEW Siassi Islands Exploratory itinerary is a true expedition into one of Papua New Guinea’s least-visited and most promising diving frontiers. Departing from Walindi Plantation Resort, this adventure heads to the remote western end of New Britain, where pristine reefs, volcanic islands, and rarely explored dive sites offer exciting opportunities for discovery. As this is an exploratory itinerary, much of what lies beneath the surface remains unknown. Based on the region’s geography and limited previous diving, we anticipate healthy hard and soft coral gardens, dramatic walls and pinnacles, and drift dives rich with marine life. Likely encounters include reef sharks, turtles, schooling barracuda, and trevally, and excellent opportunities for underwater photography. Cape Gloucester Cape Gloucester is expected to offer pristine coral reefs, dramatic underwater topography, and a wide diversity of marine life. We’re expecting the healthy corals to support reef sharks, turtles, and large schools of barracuda, making this a compelling destination for exploratory diving. Ritter Island A volcanic eruption in 1888 left behind a small, uninhabited crescent-shaped island rising 140 metres above the sea and stretching 1.9 kilometres in length. Its steep underwater slopes and deep surrounding waters suggests more fascinating dive sites to be discovered. Siassi and Umboi Islands Umboi Island is a volcanic island located between mainland Papua New Guinea and New Britain beside the Dampier Strait. The surrounding Siassi archipelago has seen limited commercial development and satellite imagery shows crystal-clear turquoise waters and white-sand beaches. There will be a lot to explore in this area.
